Horror Movies to Watch on Labor Day!

With the Labor Day weekend upon us, let's step away from the theatre for a moment to take a look at some horror movies
we can enjoy this holiday.  Below are a couple of films with some "work" themes that may make you appreciate your place of employment a little more.

*The Exorcist III (1990) The third installment in this film series, this movie stars George C. Scott as a lieutenant who is hard at work investigating a series of demonic murders in Georgetown.

*M3GAN (2023) A roboticist brings a mechanical wonder home from the office to serve as a friend, teacher, and playmate to her 8-year-old niece.  But when this robot begins making some pretty big decisions on her own, the roboticist realizes it may not always be good to bring your work home with you.

*The Menu (2022) Working in a restaurant can be tough, especially when you work for a boss that takes food snobbery to a whole new level.  Don't expect to be paid overtime by this master chef who serves up the wealthy elite as the main course in his weird little bistro.

*My Bloody Valentine (1981) I know, I know.  This flick should be seen on Valentine's Day.  But you've got to admit you can’t get worse working conditions than in a coal mine.  Add a deranged killer in the mix and someone better call their union rep!

*Office Killer (1997) When a magazine proof-reader's job turns into an at-home position, she decides to eliminate her loneliness by killing her co-workers and keeping them in a macabre office space in her basement.

*Session 9 (2001) When a crew is hired to clear asbestos from an old insane asylum, the workers are unsure of who is behind the creepy experiences they are having.  Is it one of their own, or is there an evil presence standing in their way?

*The Shining (1980) What creepier way to celebrate the holiday than to watch your father go a little nuts while at work?  With Jack Nicholson at the helm, however, this family-man turns into a violent maniac.

*The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) Even on Labor Day, the Hewitt family is hard at work trying to bring their special brand of barbeque to the citizens of Granger, Texas.  They also stay busy taking care of the nosey kids that creep up on their property.

Enter Three Murderers: Three Halloween Stories with a Nod to William Shakespeare

I am thrilled to announce that I've had a play chosen to be performed at Paris Junior College's 10th Annual Pyro Play Festival . This annual short-play festival will take place on the school's campus and run April 23rd through April 27th . There will be other unpublished works produced at the festival, and I am honored to have one of my plays showcased alongside the works of such highly talented playwrights! My play is titled, Enter Three Murderers: Three Halloween Stories with a Nod to William Shakespeare . This "monologue play" tells three separate stories of real-life killers who carried out their gruesome deeds on or about Halloween. In doing so, the audience is shown how their deeds mirror those of three murderers from Shakespeare's plays, specifically Macbeth , Titus Andronicus , and Arden of Faversham . In Scene I, we meet Nancy, a jovial grandmother from Tulsa, Oklahoma, who decides that murdering husbands is the only way she will find true happines...

Dean Corll and The Boys from Houston Heights

Today marks the 49th anniversary of the death of Houston serial killer Dean Corll.  Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of Corll's murder, as well as a time when so many Houstonians found out just what horrible fate befell the missing boys who crossed Dean Corrl's path.  My play, The Boys for Houston Heights, not only serves as a docudrama about Corll's early murders, it touches upon Houston's "lost boys" and what their parents were feeling during that time.  For those who are into true crime and what to learn more about this dark time in Houston's history, I have included a list of books, plays, and movies that tell the story of what people in 1973 referred to as The Houston Mass Murders: The Boys from Houston Heights  by Bradley Nies.  (Next Stage Press, 2018) The Candy Man:  The True Story of Serial Killer Dean Corll by Jessi Dilman.  (Trellis Publishing, 2021) The Clown and the Candy Man directed by Marcus Valentin.  (Cineflex P...

Enter Three Murderers

I just finished a play that will have a staged-reading this June!  Enter Three Murderers related the ties that Jeffrey Dahmer, Jay Kelly Pinkerton, and Ronald O'Bryan had to Texas.  The reading will be hosted by Theatre Suburbia and sponsored by Scriptwriters Houston! Enter Three Murderers, Three Plays by Bradley Nies: *Alcohol and Muscles- While stationed in San Antonio, Texas, Jeffrey Dahmer meets a male prostitute bearing a resemblance to his first murder victim. *The Lord of Dead Things- While paying dominoes with a prison chaplain in Huntsville, Texas, Jay Kelly Pinkerton confesses to the violet murder and rape of an Amarillo woman. *The Man Who Killed Halloween- After poisoning his eight year-old son on Halloween in Deer Park, Texas, Ronald Clark O'Bryan refuses to admit his guilt to the heinous crime.
